Mounjaro 5mg KwikPen is a prescription medication intended for once-weekly subcutaneous injection to assist adults with type 2 diabetes in effectively managing their blood sugar levels.
Its active component, tirzepatide, acts as a dual receptor agonist, targeting both glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors. This positions Mounjaro within a newer category of antidiabetic medications known as incretin mimetics, which replicate the function of natural gut hormones that play a role in blood sugar regulation.
Mounjaro is meant to be used when lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise alone do not sufficiently control blood glucose levels. The KwikPen device is a prefilled, multi-dose pen designed for easy self-administration at home. Each pen contains four fixed doses of the specified strength, meaning a 5mg pen contains a total of 20mg of tirzepatide (4 doses x 5mg), with each dose being 0.6 ml. Patients are instructed to inject one dose weekly, making each pen last for one month. This convenient dosing regimen aids in maintaining stable blood levels and streamlines treatment.
This medication is specifically approved for type 2 diabetes and should not be utilized for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) should refrain from using this treatment. Always administer Mounjaro under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional.
