Imatero 100mg tablet contains imatinib as its active ingredient. This antineoplastic medication is classified as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It is prescribed for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in both adults and children, a type of leukemia characterized by the uncontrolled growth of certain abnormal white blood cells. Additionally, it is indicated for Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-positive ALL) and certain gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), which are tumors that develop in the walls of the digestive tract and may metastasize to other areas of the body.
Furthermore, Imatero 100mg tablet is utilized in the management of myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD), a category of blood disorders where some blood cells proliferate uncontrollably. It is also effective in treating hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL), conditions marked by the excessive growth of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. This medication is also aimed at treating dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a cancer affecting the tissue beneath the skin characterized by abnormal cell growth. Its mechanism involves inhibiting the proliferation of these atypical blood cells.
Patients should avoid taking Imatero 100mg tablet if they have a known allergy to imatinib or any of its components. Prior to starting treatment, it is crucial to inform your healthcare provider about any existing kidney, heart, or liver issues, as well as any thyroid conditions or if the thyroid gland has been surgically removed. It is also important to notify your doctor if you have a history of hepatitis B infection, as this medication may reactivate the virus. While on this treatment, report any signs of bruising, bleeding, fever, fatigue, or confusion. Be aware that this medication may lead to fertility issues.
