It is prescribed for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in both adults and children, which is a type of leukemia characterized by the uncontrolled growth of certain abnormal white blood cells. Additionally, it is indicated for the treatment of Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-positive ALL). Furthermore, it is utilized in the management of specific gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), which are tumors that develop in the walls of the digestive tract and may metastasize to other areas of the body.

Moreover, Glivec 100mg tablet is indicated for myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD), a category of blood disorders where some blood cells proliferate uncontrollably. It is also effective in treating hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL), both of which involve the excessive growth of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. This medication is also aimed at treating dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a type of cancer affecting the tissue beneath the skin, where certain cells grow abnormally. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the proliferation of these abnormal blood cells.

It is important not to take Glivec 100mg tablet if you have a known allergy to imatinib or any of the other components of this medication. Prior to starting treatment, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider if you have any kidney, heart, or liver issues, if you have thyroid conditions, or if your thyroid gland has been surgically removed. Additionally, notify your doctor if you have a history of hepatitis B infection, as this medication may reactivate the virus.
