The Imaget 400mg tablet contains imatinib as its active ingredient. This antineoplastic medication is classified as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It is prescribed for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in both adults and children, which is a type of leukemia characterized by the uncontrolled growth of certain abnormal white blood cells. Additionally, it is indicated for the treatment of Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-positive ALL). Furthermore, it is utilized in the management of specific gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), which are tumors that develop in the walls of the digestive tract and may metastasize to other areas of the body.
The Imaget 400mg tablet is also effective in treating myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD), a category of blood disorders where some blood cells proliferate uncontrollably. It is also used for hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL), both of which involve the excessive growth of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. Additionally, this medication is indicated for dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a type of cancer affecting the tissue beneath the skin, where certain cells grow abnormally. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the proliferation of these abnormal blood cells.
Patients should avoid taking Imaget 400mg tablet if they have a known allergy to imatinib or any of its components. Prior to starting treatment, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider about any existing kidney, heart, or liver issues, thyroid conditions, or if the thyroid gland has been surgically removed. It is also important to notify your doctor if you have a history of hepatitis B infection, as this medication may reactivate the virus. While on this medication, report any signs of bruising, bleeding, fever, fatigue, or confusion. Be aware that this medication may lead to fertility issues.
