Giopem 500mg injection is an anticancer drug that contains Pemetrexed as its active ingredient. It falls under the category of antifolate agents. This medication is utilized for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma, which are types of cancers affecting the lungs and chest. Giopem can be administered alone or in conjunction with another anticancer drug, such as cisplatin. To mitigate side effects, your physician may also prescribe corticosteroids, folic acid, and vitamin B12.
Prior to each infusion, blood tests will be conducted to assess your kidney and liver functions, as well as to ensure you have a sufficient number of blood cells to safely receive this medication. It is crucial to inform your healthcare provider about any existing or past medical conditions, particularly those related to kidney issues, heart disorders, or fluid buildup in the lungs, before commencing treatment with Giopem 500mg injection. Additionally, notify your doctor if you have recently undergone radiotherapy or received any vaccinations prior to starting this medication.
If you are planning to conceive or suspect you might be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. It is essential to use effective contraception during treatment and for at least six months following the final dose of Giopem 500mg injection. For men, it is advised to avoid fathering a child during treatment and for up to three months afterward. Therefore, it is recommended to seek advice regarding fertility issues from your healthcare provider. This medication is not advised for use in adolescents and children under the age of 18.
