Eltropag 25mg Tablet is an anticoagulant medication classified as a thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist, containing the active ingredient Eltrombopag. It is used to treat low platelet counts resulting from primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) or hepatitis C (HCV) infection. ITP is an autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks platelets, which are blood cells essential for clotting and maintaining the integrity of blood vessel walls. Low platelet levels can lead to significant bleeding and bruising. Additionally, this tablet is prescribed to adults for treating low blood counts due to severe aplastic anaemia, a serious condition where the bone marrow fails to produce sufficient new blood cells.

This medication should not be administered to individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to Eltropag or its components. Allergic reactions can vary in severity and may manifest as rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Eltropag 25mg Tablet is contraindicated for patients with severe liver impairment or active liver disease, as it may lead to hepatotoxicity, indicated by elevated liver enzymes and bilirubin levels. Using this medication in patients with severe liver conditions can exacerbate liver function, hence caution is necessary. Your physician will recommend monitoring for cataracts, and if you do not undergo regular eye examinations, they should arrange for periodic testing. You may also be evaluated for bleeding in or around your retina, which is the light-sensitive layer of cells located at the back of the eye.

Should you discontinue this tablet, your blood platelet count is likely to decrease again within a few days. Your platelet levels will be monitored, and your doctor will discuss the necessary precautions. A significantly elevated blood platelet count may heighten the risk of blood clotting. However, blood clots can also develop with normal or even low platelet counts. Your physician will modify your dosage of this medication to ensure that your platelet count remains within a safe range. Avoid taking this tablet without consulting your healthcare provider.
