Neukine 300mcg Injection contains the active ingredient filgrastim, a granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF), which functions as a white blood cell growth factor. It is FDA-approved to help reduce the risk and severity of febrile neutropenia—a condition involving fever and a dangerously low white blood cell (WBC) count—in patients undergoing chemotherapy for non-myeloid cancers. Additionally, it is used to shorten the duration of neutropenia and help the body recover its white blood cell levels more quickly.
Neukine is also beneficial in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients by increasing WBC count and reducing fever duration. It is commonly administered to support bone marrow recovery in patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation, and to treat individuals with severe chronic neutropenia—a condition marked by abnormally low levels of neutrophils, a type of WBC.
Another approved use is in preparing patients for leukapheresis, a procedure where certain blood cells are collected. Neukine also plays a role in improving survival chances in individuals exposed to harmful levels of radiation, which can damage bone marrow function. Moreover, it may be prescribed for advanced HIV infections to help reduce the risk of infections by boosting WBC production.
Neukine 300mcg belongs to a class of drugs called colony-stimulating factors, which stimulate the bone marrow to produce more white blood cells—crucial components of the immune system. Since chemotherapy can significantly reduce WBC levels, the body becomes more vulnerable to infections. By promoting WBC production, Neukine helps to restore immune defense.
Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have or have had any medical conditions such as liver or kidney disease, sickle cell anemia, or bone disorders. Common side effects of Neukine may include fever, body aches or pain, skin rashes, cough, shortness of breath, and occasional nosebleeds
