Anti D 300mcg Injection PFS contains the active ingredient Anti-Rh(D) immunoglobulin, a specialized medication used primarily to prevent Rh(D) hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN). This condition can arise when an Rh-negative mother carries an Rh-positive fetus, potentially leading to the mother developing antibodies against the Rh(D) antigen. Administering this injection significantly lowers the risk of such antibody formation, thereby protecting future pregnancies from complications associated with HDN.
This medication is not suitable for individuals who have a known severe allergy or hypersensitivity to any of its components. It should not be administered to Rh-positive mothers, as they naturally possess Rh(D) antigens and are not at risk of developing Rh antibodies. Furthermore, if a woman has already become sensitized to Rh(D) antigens—typically due to a previous pregnancy, transfusion, or miscarriage—the injection will not reverse the existing sensitization. Anti D 300mcg is strictly a preventive measure and not a treatment for existing Rh sensitization.
Anti D 300mcg Injection PFS is generally well tolerated in elderly patients, provided that administration is medically justified based on their Rh status and clinical history. In children, it may also be used in specific medical situations where there is a risk of Rh sensitization, under appropriate medical supervision
