Floricot Tablet is utilized for the treatment of salt-losing diseases. It is a synthetic version of glucocorticoid, a substance naturally produced by the body. Corticosteroids are naturally occurring in our system, and the administration of Floricot Tablet provides an additional corticosteroid to address low glucocorticoid levels resulting from adrenal gland issues (Addison’s disease). Addison’s disease is a long-term condition that arises when the adrenal cortex is damaged, impairing its ability to produce steroid hormones such as cortisol and aldosterone. These hormones play a crucial role in stress management and the regulation of sodium and potassium levels within the body.
The active ingredient in Floricot Tablet is ‘Fludrocortisone’, which falls under the category of glucocorticoids. It functions by regulating the levels of sodium and fluids in the body. In cases of Addison’s disease, there is a significant loss of sodium through urine, and Floricot Tablet helps to minimize this sodium loss.
It is important to take Floricot Tablet exactly as directed by your healthcare provider. You should continue taking Floricot Tablet for as long as your doctor recommends, following a thorough evaluation of your medical condition. Most side effects associated with Floricot Tablet do not necessitate medical intervention and typically resolve on their own over time. Common side effects may include stomach upset, changes in menstrual cycle, mood fluctuations, weight gain, and oral thrush (which increases susceptibility to fungal infections). However, if side effects persist or worsen, it is essential to consult your doctor. Abruptly discontinuing this medication is not recommended, as it may lead to unpleasant side effects and withdrawal symptoms.
Notify your doctor if you experience any muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), lung disease, kidney disease, hypertension, heart issues, blood cancer, severe headaches (migraines), epilepsy (seizures), tuberculosis (TB), or depression. While using Floricot Tablet, avoid contact with individuals who have shingles, chickenpox, or measles. If you inadvertently come into contact with someone who has these conditions, inform your doctor immediately, as special treatment may be necessary if you are exposed.
