Hexaxim Injections are bacterial vaccines belonging to the class of combination vaccines, specifically a Diphtheria-Pertussis-Tetanus (DPT) vaccine alongside components for other diseases. It is used to protect children against respiratory and skin diseases, whooping cough, polio, hepatitis B, and influenza. Diphtheria is a contagious bacterial infection primarily affecting the respiratory system, leading to complications in the heart and nervous system. Pertussis, or whooping cough, is characterized by severe coughing fits and a “whooping” sound, particularly dangerous for infants due to risks like pneumonia and seizures. Tetanus, or “lockjaw,” is caused by a bacterial toxin affecting the nervous system, causing severe muscle stiffness and spasms.

Before vaccination, inform your doctor if you or your child has any blood problems that cause easy bruising or prolonged bleeding (e.g., hemophilia or thrombocytopenia), or if you are on blood-thinning medications. Your doctor will assess and determine the appropriate course of action. If your child has received a booster dose of diphtheria and tetanus vaccine within the last four weeks, the administration of Hexaxim should be deferred, and your doctor will refer to official recommendations for optimal timing. If you or your child has a weakened or compromised immune system due to conditions like HIV infection, cancer, or immunosuppressive medications, the immune response to Hexaxim injection may be reduced. In such cases, your doctor will evaluate the risks and benefits and may recommend alternative strategies or timing.

Do not use this Hexaxim vaccine if your child has an acute severe febrile illness, as the immune system may be compromised, leading to a suboptimal immune response. Vaccination should be delayed until full recovery. If you or your child has experienced Guillain-Barré syndrome within six weeks of a previous tetanus-containing vaccine, your doctor will evaluate the situation to decide on further vaccination. This vaccine during pregnancy can pass protection to the child in the womb against whooping cough during the first few months of life. Booster doses are recommended in later childhood and adulthood to maintain protection. Hexaxim is administered in a series of doses during infancy and childhood to provide long-lasting immunity
