Imatib 400mg tablet contains imatinib as its active ingredient. This antineoplastic medication is classified as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It is prescribed for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in both adults and children, which is a type of leukemia characterized by the uncontrolled growth of certain abnormal white blood cells. Additionally, it is indicated for the treatment of Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-positive ALL). Furthermore, it is utilized in the management of specific gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), which are tumors that develop in the walls of the digestive tract and may metastasize to other areas of the body.
Imatib 400mg tablet is also indicated for myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD), a category of blood disorders where certain blood cells proliferate uncontrollably. It is effective in treating hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL), both of which involve the excessive growth of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. Additionally, this medication is used for dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a cancer affecting the tissue beneath the skin characterized by abnormal cell growth. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the proliferation of these abnormal blood cells.
Do not use Imatib 400mg tablet if you have a known allergy to imatinib or any of its components. Prior to starting treatment, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider if you have any kidney, heart, or liver issues, or if you have a history of thyroid problems or have had your thyroid gland removed. It is also important to notify your doctor if you have ever had or currently have a hepatitis B infection, as this medication may reactivate the virus. Be sure to report any signs of bruising, bleeding, fever, fatigue, or confusion while taking this medication. Additionally, this medicine may lead to fertility issues.
