Luprodex MD Injection contains Leuprolide acetate as its active ingredient. This medication falls under the category of Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH) agonists. It is utilized in the treatment of prostate cancer in men, hormone-sensitive breast cancer, as well as endometriosis (a condition where tissue that typically lines the uterus grows outside of it) and uterine fibroids (noncancerous tumors of the uterus) in women.
Additionally, this medication is prescribed for the management of premature puberty (central precocious puberty), where hormonal changes cause a child’s body to undergo adult-like changes prematurely.
It is important to avoid this medication if you have an allergy to Leuprolide acetate or any other components, including Goserelin and Triptorlin, as well as products related to gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). During treatment, you may notice a temporary worsening of symptoms due to an initial increase in sex steroids in the body, which will diminish with continued use of the medication. Consult your physician for any further concerns.
This medication is not advised for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women, nor in patients experiencing abnormal vaginal bleeding. It is also contraindicated for individuals with seizure disorders or mood disturbances. Men who have urinary blockages or have had testicular removal should notify their healthcare provider.
Regular monitoring of bone density is recommended. Women of childbearing age should utilize non-hormonal contraceptive methods while receiving Luprodex MD Injection. Notify your doctor if you experience spinal cord pressure, urinary issues, or haematuria (presence of blood in urine).
Before starting treatment, inform your doctor of any pre-existing medical conditions, such as diabetes, seizures, cardiovascular issues including chest pain and irregular heartbeats, depression, or a heightened risk of osteoporosis (bone density loss). It is also advisable to disclose all medications you are currently taking.
