Menactra Vaccine

The Menactra Vaccine includes an active ingredient known as meningococcal polysaccharide Diphtheria Toxoid Conjugate. This vaccine serves as an active immunizing agent aimed at preventing meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis groups A, C, Y, and W–135; however, it does not provide protection against N meningitidis serogroup B.

Menactra injection is not recommended for individuals diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) as it may heighten the risk of developing GBS. If you have an allergy to this medication or any of its components, consult your healthcare provider.

The Menactra shot may not be effective for individuals with a weakened immune response or specific health conditions. Those with complement deficiencies or who are on certain medications may still be at an increased risk for meningococcal disease, even after receiving the vaccine, and immunosuppressive treatments can diminish the immune response to vaccinations.

Inform your doctor if you suspect you are pregnant, are planning to become pregnant, or are currently breastfeeding. Additionally, let your physician know if you are taking any other medications alongside the Menactra Vaccine. The safety and efficacy of this vaccine have not been established for adults over the age of 55.
