PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION is an antibiotic that combines Piperacillin and Tazobactam. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including lower respiratory tract infections (like pneumonia and acute bacterial exacerbations causing breathing difficulties), urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, skin infections, abdominal and biliary tract infections, female pelvic infections (such as postpartum endometritis or pelvic inflammatory disease), bacteraemia, and bacterial meningitis in infants and children. It is also used in conjunction with other antibacterial agents to manage neutropenia caused by bacterial infection.

Before any laboratory tests, inform your doctor or healthcare professional, as PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION may interfere with medical investigations. It is crucial to inform your doctor if you are allergic to any antibiotics or other medicines. PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION should not be used if you are allergic to penicillin antibiotics, cephalosporins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Use this injection with caution if you have pre-existing diarrhoea, low potassium levels, or kidney and liver diseases.

Avoid the concomitant use of other aminoglycoside antibiotics and vancomycin with this medicine. PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as in children above 2 months of age and elderly people. Your doctor will determine the correct dose based on your child’s age, body weight, and the severity of the infection. Common side effects include diarrhoea, yeast infection, headache, sleeplessness, stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, constipation, skin rash, itching, fever, and injection site reactions

PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION works by effectively destroying the bacterial growth that is responsible for causing infections. Piperacillin, one of its components, functions by interrupting the cell wall formation in bacteria. It achieves this by binding with the enzymes crucial for cell wall synthesis. This binding leads to defects in the bacterial cell wall, ultimately resulting in cell death and thus the death of the microorganism.

Tazobactam, the other component, plays a synergistic role. It is responsible for the irreversible termination of enzymes known as beta-lactamases. These beta-lactamase enzymes are produced by some bacteria to protect themselves from antibiotics, essentially breaking down the antibiotic before it can act. While Tazobactam alone produces less antibacterial action, when used in combination with Piperacillin, it effectively neutralizes these protective enzymes, thereby allowing Piperacillin to work effectively. Thus, both substances work in concert, with Piperacillin directly inhibiting cell growth and function, and Tazobactam protecting Piperacillin's action, ultimately leading to the inhibition and management of bacterial growth

Before receiving PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

antibiotics used to manage bacterial infections (Ex. gentamycin, streptomycin, neomycin, amikacin, vancomycin)
medicine used to manage gout (Ex. Probenecid)
medicine used as muscle relaxants during surgery (Ex. vecuronium)
medicines used to manage blood clots (Ex. heparin, warfarin, aspirin)
methotrexate (used to manage arthritis, or psoriasis)
medicines reducing potassium levels (Ex. furosemide)

PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION will be administered to you into a vein (intravenously) by your doctor or nurse. Your doctor will determine and administer the correct dose and duration of the treatment specifically for you, based on your age, body weight, and the severity of your disease condition

Driving and Using Machines

Do not drive or handle heavy machines if you experience dizziness, drowsiness, tired, or if you have blurred vision while receiving PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION.

Alcohol

Contraindicated

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during management with PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION.

Kidney

Use with Caution

PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases and patients on haemodialysis. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

Liver

Use with Caution

PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases and patients with abnormal liver tests. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

Allergy

Contraindicated

Do not receive PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION if you are allergic to Piperacillin or Tazobactam or to any other ingredients of this medicine.

Lungs

Use with Caution

PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with community-acquired pneumonia and ventilator-associated pneumonia. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

Use In Pediatrics

Use with Caution

PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION should be used with caution in children above 2 months of age. Your doctor will administer the right dose depends on your child’s age, body weight and disease condition. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

Use In Geriatrics

Use with Caution

PIZOWAVE 2.25 INJECTION should be used with caution in elder patients (above 65 years of age). Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.
