PNEUMOVAX 23

Pneumovax 23mg injection is a Pneumococcal Vaccine designed to prevent disease in individuals across a broad age range, from children aged 6 weeks to 17 years, and adults aged 18 years and older. This injection provides protection against severe infections such as meningitis (inflammation around the brain and spinal cord), sepsis or bacteremia (bacterial presence in the bloodstream), pneumonia (lung infection), and ear infections, all caused by 13 distinct types of Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. Its mechanism of action involves stimulating the body to produce specific antibodies, which then confer protection against these diseases.

However, certain contraindications apply to Pneumovax 23 injection. It should not be administered if you have an allergy to the Pneumococcal vaccine, any of its other ingredients, or any other vaccine containing diphtheria toxoid. Additionally, it is not advisable to take this vaccine if you are experiencing a severe infection accompanied by a fever exceeding 38°C.

Before receiving the vaccine, it is crucial to inform your doctor about any present or past medical problems, including breathing difficulties, and conditions related to bleeding or bruising. You should also notify your doctor if you have a compromised immune system (low resistance to infection) or a history of seizures. If the vaccine is for a child, inform your doctor if the child was prematurely born (at or before 28 weeks of gestation). Furthermore, it is important to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, suspect you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding. This vaccine is not for self-administration; it must be administered by a well-trained doctor.
