Posaone 100 Tablet belongs to a category of medications known as azole antifungals. It is utilized to prevent and treat fungal infections when other antifungal treatments have proven ineffective, or if you have had to discontinue their use. Additionally, it is indicated for the prevention of invasive Aspergillus and Candida infections in patients who are at a heightened risk of developing these infections due to severe immunocompromised states, such as recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCT) with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) or individuals with hematologic malignancies experiencing prolonged neutropenia as a result of chemotherapy.
Posaone 100 Tablet contains the active ingredient posaconazole. This triazole antifungal agent works by inhibiting specific enzymes (P-450 dependent enzyme, sterol 14α-demethylase). This inhibition disrupts the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, leading to the accumulation of methylated sterol precursors. Consequently, this results in the suppression of fungal cell growth and ultimately cell death, thereby treating infections.
It is important to take Posaone 100 Tablet exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. You should continue taking Posaone 100 Tablet for the duration recommended by your doctor, based on your medical condition. Some individuals may experience side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, fever, vomiting, headache, coughing, and low potassium levels in the blood. Most of these side effects associated with Posaone 100 Tablet do not necessitate medical intervention and typically resolve on their own over time. However, if these side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult your physician.
Notify your doctor if you have any allergies or hypersensitivities to any ingredients in Posaone 100 Tablet, or if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, plan to conceive, or are breastfeeding; your doctor will only prescribe Posaone 100 Tablet if the benefits are deemed to outweigh the risks. Prior to starting Posaone 100 Tablet, inform your doctor about your medical history and any ongoing treatments to avoid potential adverse effects or drug interactions.
