Valticlo 450mg Tablet contains Valganciclovir as its active ingredient. This medication falls under the category of Antiviral (Non-HIV) drugs. Once inside the body, Valganciclovir is converted into ganciclovir, which is effective against viral infections. It is prescribed for adult patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) who are suffering from cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections affecting the retina. Such infections can often lead to blindness and visual impairments. Additionally, it serves to prevent Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in organ transplant recipients, including those who have received kidney and heart transplants from adults and children infected with the virus.
The use of Valticlo 450mg Tablet is not advised for individuals with a known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the drug or any of its ingredients. The safety and efficacy of Valticlo 450mg Tablet for treating CMV infections in non-immunocompromised adults, as well as for congenital or neonatal CMV disease, have not been evaluated, thus it is not recommended. It is important to inform your physician if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Nursing while taking Valticlo 450mg Tablet is also discouraged due to the potential risk of harm to the fetus.
Both females and males of reproductive age are advised to use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 30 days and 90 days post-treatment with Valticlo 450mg Tablet, respectively, because of the drug’s potential mutagenic and teratogenic effects. Your physician may suggest using barrier methods of birth control, such as condoms or diaphragms.
Notify your doctor if you have a history of radiation therapy, hemodialysis (a procedure that filters waste and excess water from the blood), or any other kidney-related issues. If you have kidney problems, a dosage adjustment of Valticlo 450mg Tablet will be necessary. Your doctor may also conduct regular blood tests to monitor your blood count while you are on this medication. It is advisable to inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking, including herbal remedies, vitamin supplements, and over-the-counter drugs, before starting treatment.
