Glivec 400mg tablet contains imatinib as its active ingredient. This antineoplastic medication is classified as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It is prescribed for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in both adults and children, a type of leukemia characterized by the uncontrolled growth of certain abnormal white blood cells. Additionally, it is indicated for Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-positive ALL). Furthermore, it is utilized in the treatment of specific gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), which are tumors that develop in the walls of the digestive tract and may metastasize to other areas of the body.

Moreover, Glivec 400mg tablet is also effective in treating myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD), a category of blood disorders where some blood cells proliferate uncontrollably. It is also used for hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL), conditions where eosinophils, a type of blood cell, grow excessively. This medication is also aimed at treating dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a cancer affecting the tissue beneath the skin characterized by abnormal cell growth. Its mechanism involves inhibiting the proliferation of these abnormal blood cells.

Do not use Glivec 400mg tablet if you have an allergy to imatinib or any of its components. Prior to starting treatment, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider if you have any kidney, heart, or liver issues, or if you have had your thyroid gland removed or have thyroid disorders. Additionally, notify your doctor if you have a history of hepatitis B infection, as this medication may reactivate the virus. Be sure to report any signs of bruising, bleeding, fever, fatigue, or confusion while on this medication. It is important to note that this medicine may lead to fertility issues.
