Meroplan S 1.5gm injection is an antibiotic that comprises two active components, namely Meropenem and Sulbactam. It falls under the category of carbapenem antibiotics. This medication is utilized to address a variety of bacterial infections caused by organisms that are susceptible to it. Additionally, it is effective in treating pneumonia, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, gynecological infections, skin infections, meningitis, and sepsis. Harmful bacteria produce toxins that damage tissues and lead to illness. This medication functions by obstructing the formation of the protective barrier that bacteria require for survival. Sulbactam serves to inhibit bacterial enzymes that could deactivate Meropenem. Furthermore, Meropenem may be employed in the management of neutropenic patients who present with fever suspected to be due to a bacterial infection.

It is imperative not to use Meroplan S 1.5gm injection if you have a known allergy to Meropenem, Sulbactam, Penicillins, Cephalosporins, Carbapenems, or any other components of the medication. Prior to administration of this injection, it is essential to inform your physician if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, suspect you may be pregnant, or are currently breastfeeding. Additionally, before commencing treatment, you should notify your doctor if you have any liver or kidney issues or if you have experienced severe diarrhea following the use of other antibiotics.

Common side effects associated with Meroplan S 1.5gm injection include headache, abdominal pain, nausea, elevated platelet counts in the blood, and diarrhea. Prior to initiating treatment, it is crucial to inform your doctor of any pre-existing medical conditions. Also, notify your physician if you are adhering to a salt-restricted diet. During the course of treatment, there is a possibility of obtaining a positive Coombs test, which indicates the presence of antibodies that may impact red blood cells; therefore, your doctor may suggest blood tests to monitor your blood cell count and kidney function.
