Powercort S 3% Ointment is classified as an ‘anti-inflammatory and antipruritic agent’ and is primarily utilized for the treatment of eczema and psoriasis. Eczema is characterized by inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough patches of skin. Certain forms of eczema may also result in blisters, which are small bubbles filled with serum caused by friction, burning, or other forms of damage. Psoriasis, on the other hand, is a skin condition where skin cells multiply at a rate up to 10 times faster than normal, leading to the accumulation of skin into uneven, bumpy red patches covered with white scales. These patches can develop anywhere on the body, but they are most frequently found on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back.
Powercort S 3% Ointment includes Clobetasol, Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid, and Urea. Clobetasol is a steroid that inhibits the production of specific chemical messengers (prostaglandins) responsible for causing redness, swelling, and itching of the skin. Salicylic Acid and Urea function as keratolytic agents, softening, separating, and promoting the peeling of the outer layer of skin. This helps to break down keratin clumps, eliminate dead skin cells, and soften the skin, while also enhancing the absorption of Clobetasol. Lactic Acid, in contrast, aids in maintaining the skin’s natural moisture and hydration, while also encouraging collagen renewal and skin firmness.
Powercort S 3% Ointment should be applied according to the dosage and duration prescribed by your doctor. It is important to read the label for instructions prior to use. This ointment is intended for external application only. Ensure that you wash your hands both before and after applying this medication. Powercort S 3% Ointment is generally considered safe for use. However, some individuals may experience side effects such as skin peeling, thinning, burning, itching, irritation, and redness at the site of application.
